Frequently Asked Questions

How do I join? Is it too late?

It is never too late to join! We accept all students, whether you are a first-year looking for an organization to get involved with on-campus or a graduate student looking for an extracurricular activity. Find us at O-Fest at the beginning of each semester or pop into meetings, which are published on the calendar on our home page. Feel free to contact us via the contact page. The amount of involvement is up to the individual, but there is always work to go around!

Do I need to be in the school of engineering to join?

Not at all! This group is open to the entire Marquette community. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses, and combining them together can help us Be the Difference. No matter what your major is, there is always work that can be done. Travel opportunities are open to every member of our chapter.

What do students do?

There are many ways to get involved, and we usually have a variety of activities for our members, from local volunteering to projects overseas. Year-round we work on our primary project, have chapter meetings, and work on fundraising. Our goal is to allow students to exercise what they learn in the classroom and apply it to real-world applications. During the pandemic, we worked on remotely implementing our projects. We have since returned to in-person implementation of projects with teams traveling over winter and summer breaks. Outside of project work, there is still plenty to be involved with on the fundraising and domestic sides of things!

Some examples of what students do:

  • Get to know other students by attending meetings and chapter events

  • Lead small committees related to fundraising, grant-writing, or community outreach

  • Plan technical details of our projects

  • Organize and plan grilled cheese sales, silent auctions and coffee sales

  • Attend regional and national conferences with Engineers Without Borders or Bridges to Prosperity

What does it cost?

Membership fees are $5 per semester. This fee covers the pizza provided at chapter meetings, EWB-USA chapter dues, and sponsoring speakers.

Prices will vary if you are selected to be on a travel team. The prices of trips vary by duration, accommodations, and flights.

Do you have to be a student at Marquette Univiersity?

To be involved in our chapter you must currently be enrolled at Marquette University. The one exception would be if you are a mentor for a project. To find out more about mentoring with Engineers Without Borders please visit the Engineers Without Borders-USA website. We are always looking for mentors and would love to learn from your expertise!
